CS2 updates announced

Counter-Strike 2 gets new updates

Host of updates added to CS2

Valve has released a host of updates for Counter-Strike 2, including a new map coming in for Dust 2 and a new loadout feature amongst other crucial updates. Amongst the biggest changes introduced is the introduction of Mirage, which has replaced Dust 2.

Weapons Changes:

  • The loadout slot has also undergone a change, which sees players now have: 1 Starting Pistol slot, 4 Pistol slots, 5 Mid-tier slots (these were previously under the SMGs and Heavy tag) and 5 Rifle slots, per team. This basically means, players now can choose a total of 15 weapons at the start of the halves and if a player wants to, they can equip both the M4A4 and the M4A1-S and leave out the AUG.

  • Loadout now supports drag and drop and also has been redesigned so it fits onto a single screen.

The in-game buy menu has also undergone significant changes, which include:

  • The buy wheel has been replaced with a grid, which showcases all purchase options together at the same time

  • Purchases made by teammates are also shown on the buy menu

  • Weapon stats have been updated to simpler descriptions

  • Players now can also refund any buy which was bought in the same round but now used.

Changes with regards to sub-tick are:

  • Sub-tick movement on the new update is more precise and less 'floaty' according to player feedback

  • Weapon aim punch recovery has been fine-tuned to be 'latency-independent' on the sub-tick recovery on the client

  • View punch camera shake effect during shooting has also be fine-tuned to be both latency-independent and synchronized with other sub-tick shooting effects

Changes with regards to smoke are:

  • Lighting and rendering has been improved significantly when it overlaps multiple well-lit regions

  • HE grenade effect time on smokes have been reduced

  • Shotguns make larger holes in smoke volumes now

Multiple other changes include:

  • VAC will now live ban and terminate the match at the end of the round (unless it was the last round and the cheater lost).

  • The match will not affect the players' ' Skill Group.

  • Players who were not lobbied with the VAC-banned player will earn XP for match.

  • Improved performance and responsiveness in windowed and full-screen windowed modes.

  • Player's own footstep sounds are now predicted on the client for a latency-independent experience.

  • Adjustments to the viewmodel 'inspect' to remove animation popping.

  • Several viewmodel and blending animation fixes.

  • Improved traversal animation.

  • Jumping into the air and running off a ledge is now differentiated to allow for separate character motion.

All of the updates can be found here. This is Valve's most significant upgrade with regards to the game and hopefully the first of many before the game is scheduled to be launched later this summer.
