FaZe triumphs OG in Copenhagen

After a close Inferno, FaZe dominate OG on Mirage to win 2-0

The Upper C Brackets of the BLAST Premiere Fall Groups 2023 took us to a matchup between FaZe and OG. FaZe, who were lacking in the coaching department, after both their analyst innersh1ne and coach RobbaN stepped down from the roster, were looking to hold their position as the #3 ranked team. On the other hand, OG saw the return of their IGL nexa, and the addition of young blood regali, along with k1to and FASHR. The veto went slightly in favor of FaZe, as Inferno, Mirage and Overpass are all maps that FaZe likes to play.

The game began as OG adopted a passive approach, allowing FaZe to freely control Banana almost every round. As a result, karrigan was always aware of what OG was up to. This helped FaZe gain an early 3-0 lead over OG. In the 4th round, however, armed with only Desert Eagles, OG's halls pop trampled FaZe's defense which was mostly focused on mid. That single round alone changed the momentum of the game and OG took the scoreline from 1-3 to 4-3 before Ropz got an impressive 4K with an MP9 to level the score. As the match progressed, OG began contesting Banana, and successfully breached the defenses of karrigan and rain, except for the 9th and 14th rounds where they fell short. Whenever FaZe attempted early aggression of three players, Nexa from OG anticipated it and struck the A site. Consequently, OG's T side managed to secure 9 rounds overall.

On the T-side, as karrigan held control of the game, FaZe looked much more comfortable. Much like the first half, OG didn't contest for Banana control, leaving them with limited information about where the FaZe players were. In a battle of wits about where FaZe was going to attack, karrigan was always a step ahead of nexa and FaZe walked into empty bombsites more often than not. Following a disheartening streak of four consecutive defeats, OG finally managed to reclaim a round, courtesy of a meticulously timed rotation executed by regali. These isolated rounds, characterized by exceptional individual performances resulting in multiple kills were the only round OG won in the half. The lack of Banana control contributed massively as FaZe pushed the scoreline to 14-11.

Rightly called the key to the roster by nexa, regali turned heads with his impressive 1v3 which broke the streak of FaZe. It brought a sense of change in OG started to challenge Banana and started getting control of it. FaZe, who was once an inch away from victory had to now face a 14-14 score. Realizing that OG was playing three Banana early, karrigan called an Apps pop despite being smoked off. And two clean entries from rain and ropz meant that FaZe was the first team to reach match point. The final round was all about rain's lurk which got three kills on the B site and FaZe overtook OG to secure OG's map pick.

Mirage started in a similar fashion to Inferno with FaZe taking an early 3-0 lead before OG scored their first round. However, unlike Inferno, FaZe didn't let OG build onto the won round by winning three rounds to take the score to 6-1. The OG's individuals that were looking absent from the server came alive as regali, F1KU and FASHR started taking initiatives. The huge gap between FaZe and OG narrowed down to an 8-7 scoreline as FaZe was still an inch above OG. On the CT side, despite falling prey to nexa's extraordinary A fake on the pistol round, FaZe's defense looked strong. rain consistently delivered multi-kills on A, while karrigan and Twistzz fortified the B site against relentless rushes. Meanwhile, OG's offensive efforts appeared lackluster, leading to FaZe's dominant 16-9 victory on the map.
