Monte lock-in Groups at IEM Cologne
Furia started Mirage with a 4-1 lead thanks to the pistol win. Chelo was having a hot start, being the first on the server to hit double digits, and Furia was running a classic double AWP setup to keep Monte in check. In the later stages of the half, Monte were able to squeek out some round wins to keep the game nearly tied at 8-7.
The Ukranian side was powering up and hitting their shots as they took the lead early in the second half, 11-8. Furia found their first T-side round in a 1v2 situation where Woro2k was forced to save his AWP. The Brazilian squad nearly tied the game up, but a couple fo kills from br0 gave Monte the matchpoint and Furia were unable to deny it.
The Fallen-led side did bounce back solidly on Overpass. Starting with another pistol win, they found themselves up 4-1 once again, this time on their attack. Limiting Monte to just five rounds, including a 1v3 from br0 on the five-seven on the CT side, thanks to Chelo’s continued success, Furia went into the second half with a massive lead. And they closed it out flawlessly 16-5, pushing the series to Ancient.
This time it was Monte who found pistol success, and Furia were forced to reply in the gun rounds, tying the game up 3-3. Both teams stayed neck and neck this time, but Monte were able to take the lead 9-6 in the closing moments of the half.
They continued that momentum in the second half, quickly reaching 12-6 and annihilating Furia's economy in the process. It was do-or-die for Furia as they brought out M4s in round 19, and finally, the Brazilians took a round win after correctly reading Monte's A site fake. Monte took the control back immediately and br0's double entry on the B bombsite set them up at matchpoint. A clean rush bombsite B shut Furia out guaranteeing Monte the group stage spot.
