Bleh, Elfishguy and Pilski talk about Skyesports 2024 CS2 roadmap

Elfishguy: “There is an added difficulty in hosting foreign events.”

In the latest edition of Geographically Challenged, a podcast hosted by Elfishguy in the company of Bleh and Pilski, the trio briefly discussed and shared their opinions about Skyesports’ 2024 CS2 roadmap.

The discussion kicked off when Elfishguy brought up that Skyesports had announced six CS2 events for 2024 which, in his own words he believed was “f****** POG”.

Elfishguy went on to say that the roadmap contained events that were not just India-centric but went beyond, involving teams from Oceania and Europe, which was something the trio had previously spoken about as a good thing for the regional Counter-Strike landscape.

“I don’t know how much interest you’ll necessarily build purely being in India. As it gets more globalised I think you’ll catch more eyeballs. This is a positive move in my opinion, it’s gonna cost a lot yeah but seems like they’re (Skyesports) doing a pretty good thing for the Asian scene.”

Bleh added to the conversation, bringing up his time at Skyesports Masters 2023. While he thought the event went great in various regards he immediately brought attention to Skyesports Championship 5.0 which was supposed to host a LAN in early December. He mentioned how the event was quietly pushed back and indefinitely postponed. Bleh mentioned that these series of events in their first international Counter-Strike venture painted a “worrying picture”.

“they have bitten off more than they can chew in the past I'll just say that but I’m happy that they’re optimistic, doing what they want to do. I hope all the events play out in a good way.”

Bleh also spoke briefly about the challenges involved in hosting events on foreign soil, especially Bangkok, mentioning that even a few well established TOs have had problems in Bangkok. He hopes that Skyesports are a little bit more tempered and prepared in their approach towards these foreign events.

The trio brought back a point of discussion from one of their previous podcasts where they spoke about the prize pool for Skyesports Masters 2023. Bleh stated that a quarter-million dollars in prize pool for an event with a few Indian teams very little to no viewership from outside India could not be justified.

“This time they’ve split a million dollars into six events! I think that’s a way better choice.”
