TheMongolz's triumph gives Asia a Major boost
With TheMongolz making it to the Elimination Stages or the top-16, after they took down Legacy, their advancement means that the Asian region will have 3 spots at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, which will take place in December 2024. The Shanghai Major will also be the first-ever Major to be hosted in Asia.
The regional slots according to Valve's Major rulebook highlights that each team who make it to the final 16 will help their region gain another spot along with the Contender spots (2 for Asia, 3 for Americas and Europe).
TheMongolz's advancement to the Top 16 also means that they are the first Asian team since TYLOO at the FACEIT Major 2018 to make it to the final 16.
Additionally, with FURIA, Imperial and paiN making it along with Complexity also means the Americas will have 7 spots at the Shanghai Major, which is also the most for the region. Asia's and Americas' additional spots come with Europe losing out on their spots, and will have 14 teams in China later on this year.
All teams who make it to the Playoffs of the ongoing PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen will help their region get a direct spot to the Shanghai Major's Elimination Stage.
