ESL announces Team Selected seeding and live rating
ESL has unveiled a "Team Selected Seeding" method that they will be using to determine initial rankings based on the input from the participating teams themselves. Each team will be ranked by all other teams participating, and their rank will be determined by averaging those values.
Then, based on their ranks, the teams will be seeded accordingly. For eg, the team with the lowest rank will be assigned the top seed. Then, once the tournament begins, the seeding will be used to dynamically evaluate the elo by a live-ratings system.
The seeding system is used across all tournament stages: Team Selected Seeding sets initial matchups for Stage 1 and Stage 2, while Live Ratings continuously update rankings in Swiss rounds. For the playoffs, Stage 2 results and Live Ratings are used to break ties.
