m0NESY annihilates OG to secure Dallas playoffs for G2
G2's Paris started with the team in prime form in the Challengers stage, going 3-0, before absolutely bombing the Legends stage and failing to make the playoffs. Not only did G2 fail to make playoffs, but more importantly, NiKo could not compete for his final chance to win a major while ZywOo lifted the trophy. Coming into Dallas, the team had to prove that they were still one of the year's best teams going into the looming CS2 reset. After the win in the opener, G2 faced up against OG in the upper bracket. The niko led international squad are further weakened as regali stepped in for degster as the team's AWPer.
With how the match started, you'd think G2 was still facing Nouns rather than OG. HooXi's team put up an unbreakable defence and quickly racked up nine rounds in a row. A couple of rounds came thanks to flameZ and NEOFRAG, but the half was a dominant 13-2 win for G2. And the second half didn't leave much breathing room for OG either as the map was quickly completed at 16-2 as m0NESY put up an unimaginable figures of 28-8, absolutely annihilating OG.
Moving onto Inferno, OG finally managed to get a lead with a 2-0 pistol conversion. Despite G2's gun round wins, regali managed to maintain the lead with a beautiful AWP 3k. From there, G2 just farmed the OG defence, winning duels all over the map to get up to 7-3. Another round went the way of OG as G2 walked into an A site stack, but the half closed out with a 10-5 lead for G2.
A magical NiKo USP-S clutch gave G2 the pistol and managed to recover from OG's force-buy win with a force-buy of their own, putting themselves just two rounds away from taking the series. Fittingly, m0NESY's AWP put G2 on matchpoint. OG managed just a couple more rounds before G2 closed the map out 16-9, securing their berth in the playoffs and setting up the group decider match for a potential semi-final seeding.
