mezii powers fnatic to a 19-17 victory over Complexity
With Dexter taking on the role of the new in-game leader in the revamped lineup, fnatic encountered Complexity as their first opponent at IEM Cologne Play-in. Poised to kick off their campaign on a positive note, they began the Best of 1 match on Inferno, starting on the T-side.
fnatic started strong with a swift push towards the B site, securing the pistol round with the aid of an impressive 4k. However, their momentum was short-lived as Complexity fought back with a surprising force buy in the second round, overpowering fnatic with their pistols. It gave Complexity an early economic advantage, allowing them to lead the score 3-1. Despite a few costly mistakes, fnatic's utility usage was on point. Their well-timed flashes provided crucial support to their fraggers, resulting in successful entry frags and eventually leveling the score at 5-5.
As the game progressed and the new roster of fnatic had more time to coalesce, they managed to shake off the cobwebs. The errors that costed them rounds earlier considerably diminished over time. As a result, fnatic claimed 9 rounds on their T-side, powered by kills from their 27 kills combined from their spearheads roej and mezii.
Complexity seized the second pistol round, on the back of two impressive entries from mezii. JT further added onto the round count by securing three entries on the force buy, helping them to eventually level the score at 9-9. Despite a fumble in the 19th round, Complexity's determination remained unwavering, and they managed to surpass fnatic, taking the lead at 11-10.
Similar to the first half, fnatic showed some teething problems on the CT side, enabling Complexity to take control of the sites. However, mezii shouldered the responsibility alone with his multi-kills to hold down the B bombsite, taking fnatic to reach matchpoint against Complexity's 11.
Backs against the wall, Complexity went back to basics. With the help of some incredible flash assists from hallzerk, Complexity executed coordinated pushes to bombsites, moving together as a cohesive unit. They managed to turn the tides in their favor, taking the game to overtime. After fnatic lost the first round in OT, mezii came alive once again. He single-handedly tilted the momentum in his team's favor. As the game came to a conclusion, his 39 kills pushed fnatic over the line, securing the game with a 19-17 victory.
