Valve hints at CS2’s next major update
In a recent update shipped by Valve, animation optimisations and bug fixes were deployed across various maps and aspects of the game. Under the surface, the community noticed something else.
Hidden in the items.txt file in the game’s root directory, the devs had added a new knife along with initial finishes. The knife was named “Kukri” knife and had the following finishes attached to it:
-
purple
-
tiger_orange
-
damascus
-
marble_fade
-
steel
-
ruby_marbleized
-
sapphire_marbleized
-
blackpearl_marbleized
-
doppler_phase1
-
doppler_phase2
-
doppler_phase3
-
doppler_phase4
The knife could be a part of the next weapons case or the next operation, since Valve’s operations for the game would usually drop at the end of the year. The community had previously spotted another knife in the game files along with Kukri knife when CS2 was in beta, named - “Twinblade” knife.
Another item that was added to the game files was the 2024 service medal and it’s tier models, which is usually added to the game files at this time of the year.
However, all of this while visible in the game files, still has a massive element of uncertainty with regard the method of introduction and implementation. The community stands divided on the leaked knives with a portion of players saying that anti-cheat and core gameplay should be the core focus at the moment, instead of new weapon finishes.
