Riri Playz “I did not expect a LAN event could be so fun”

A short chat with a promising upcoming talent

The Skyesports Grand Slam 2024 saw a special show match take place which was the all-female Luna show match. Post the game, we caught up with Riri Playz to take a bit about her experience and the women’s game in the country.

How were your initial feelings and experience playing in front of a crowd, on the stage and at a LAN given the lack of opportunity for women?

This is my first LAN. This is the first time, I am playing the LAN, the first LAN experience. And I am just 16 and this LAN was so fun for me. I mean, I did not expect that a LAN event could be so fun. And being a debut, I mean, our team tried so hard. I'm proud of our team.

You spoke about this being your first LAN event. Currently, the girls in the country don't have a lot of, opportunities and platforms, for esports. How important do you think are events, show matches like this to grow the game, especially given the viewership you get?

As a small creator, maybe this got me to many people who don't even know me and showcase my talent at a really well-developed stage and time. Because many people right now are not aware of the underdogs in the gaming community or gaming society right now. And I think that underdogs should be promoted rather than just hyping over one player every time.

Personally, where do you think the skill level lies for the girls in India? Like, if you compare with NA or EU, where do you think we lie skill level-wise?

10 on 10, man. How could we compare skill levels? I mean, it's a 10 on 10. It's just that girls do not have much opportunity to showcase their talent and showcase their skills. So, yeah, it's a 10 on 10.

And finally, what would be, personally, your, message to TOs and Orgs to like maybe invest more in women’s CS or anything else?

I think, every girl should invest in CS. People should find more people. People should have more tryouts. People should find the underdogs lying behind each game. Because there are many girls who don't even stream and play so well. I think that they should get the opportunity to showcase their talent. They can organize some matches and find some underdogs in it
