Steam sees rapid 5-year growth in India
Between 2019 and 2024, Steam has grown by over 150% in terms of userbase in several regions including India, Japan, Ecuador, Mexico, Chile, Israel and Pakistan. 2019 marked the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, pushing life indoors and students procuring gaming laptops/desktops for "online classes" might have played a massive role in Steam's success.
Representing Steam's business development sector, Kassidy Gerber shared insights and numbers in a platform update at the Nordic Game 2024 Spring conference, highlighting the platform's uphill ascent in several regions.
The Steam client draws significantly lower operational power and when combined with the minimalist UI and UX approach, the platform caters to a diverse spectrum of users, increasing the ease of access. An influx in Steam sale participants over the years have encouraged new users to hop on the bandwagon to try out their favorite games at massive discounts.
