The MongolZ edge out Cloud9
To kick off group B's proceedings at the Thunderpick World Championship 2024, The MongolZ took on Cloud9 in a bo3 where the first map took us to Dust2. Starting on the CT-side, The MongolZ held off Cloud9 in the early game, getting off to a 6-0 start but a tac-timeout followed by a change of pace, brought Cloud9 back into the game with a 5-7 half.
The MongolZ secured the formative rounds on their T-side, giving them a crucial 10-5 lead. HeavyGod and Ax1Le fragged out for Cloud9, closing the gap but The MongolZ squeezed through and closed the map at the edge of regulation, 13-11, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
On their map pick, Ancient, The MongolZ started on the T-side. 910 ran down the B-site defenders with a P250, giving The MongolZ the site and the round, which they converted into an early 3-0 lead. Cloud9 however, did not let things slip out of hand, pulling back the gun rounds with well structured retakes.
After an even 6-6 half, The MongolZ got an edge over Cloud9 in the initial part of the second half with Senzu and mzinho spraying down Cloud9's aggressors with silenced M4s, dropping consecutive multi-kill rounds. Once again The MongolZ secured a 10-6 lead and Cloud9 did close the gap to level the score at 11-12, but a godly deagle triple headshot sequence from Senzu sealed the deal as The MongolZ closed the map 13-11 and the series 2-0.
