Cloud9 survive major scare
Cloud9 kicked off Group D at the Brazy Party 2023 against a new look Sprout, who recently parted ways with their in-game leader (IGL) AZR.
The match got underway on Sprout's pick of Anubis with Cloud9 starting on the CT-side. Sprout took the pistol but Cloud9 bounced back immediately on their force-buy. Cloud9 managed to close out the first half 8-7, with a slender lead.
Cloud9 were looking like they would run away with the map but Sprout put together a couple of rounds to take the map to overtime, making sure Cloud9 did not convert their two map points. Cloud9 almost bottled it on overtime but managed to take the map 19-17.
The second map was Cloud9's pick of Overpass and like the first map, while Cloud9 won the pistol, Sprout took the force buy and put in a dominant first half, which saw them lead 11-4. It seemed like Sprout would end the match in regulation but Ax1Le and SHIRO stepped up for Cloud9 to take the map to overtime. It was Zyphon and Staehr who made sure Sprout took the series to a decider, taking Overpass 19-16 in first overtime.
The decider was played on Ancient and it was Sprout who took the pistol this time. Cloud9 bounced back once again on the force buy and went on a seven round win streak and ended the first half at 9-6. Sprout started the T half strongly and looked like they would cause a major upset, but Cloud9 managed to hold on and close the map 16-14. It was Ax1Le who shone brightest for Cloud9, dropping an incredible 89 kills across the three maps and ended the series with a 1.33 rating.
