Movistar Riders rise Down Under
Movistar Riders shocked Bad News Eagles at the ESL Challenger Melbourne 2023 with the win taking the Spaniards to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Group B winner's match saw Bad News Eagles face Movistar Riders, with the winner getting a direct spot in the semi-finals. The action got underway on Inferno.
Movistar started on the CT half and took the pistol and were up 6-0 in no time before the Eagles could put up their first round. Movistar had a solid first half, which saw them finish their CT half with an 11-4 lead. The Eagles picked up an important pistol on the second half and picked up the force buy to put together a couple of rounds to eventually close up the map at 10-11, before the Spaniards scored their first T sided round.
That one round was all Movistar Riders needed to open the floodgates as they wrapped up the map 16-11 with Martinez closing out the match with a 1v3 clutch on A site.
From not being in the initial team list for the tournament, to upsetting one of the favourites, the Spaniards are enjoying yet another strong ESL campaign.
Martinez and mopoz ended the map with 1.31 and 1.27 ratings respectively which helped the Spaniards make it to the playoffs.
With the win over Bad News Eagles, Movistar Riders now will play the semi-final on Sunday while Bad News Eagles will take on either Rare Atom or VERTEX to stay in the tournament.
