Valve did not market Counter-Strike 2 as a brand new game but just a free upgrade to the already existing game - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, meaning that it would replace CS:GO. CS2 brings a reworked premier mode, utilizing the concept of visible ELO to extend the skill rating beyond the rank of Global Elite. Matchmaking receives a rework too, introducing map based ranks, allowing higher ranked players to try out new maps without the risk of losing their ranks.
