Paris Major 2023 Legends Stage: Final Day recap
The final day of the Paris Major Legends Stage is over and it was an enthralling day with some stunning Counter-Strike. As we finally got the final couple of spots in the Champions Stage confirmed, we also had to bid goodbye to some of the most iconic names of the game.
If you missed the day's action, we've got a quick recap for you.
The Great One misses out
The first game of the final day saw FaZe take on Natus Vincere with s1mple and karrigan fighting to keep their CS:GO legacy alive. Navi took FaZe's pick of Overpass to take an early 1-0 lead but on their own pick of Mirage, FaZe absolutely battered them to take the series to the decider on Anubis. It seemed as if Anubis would be the final map in CS:GO Majors for the likes of karrigan, rain, Twistzz as Navi were 15-9 up but FaZe pulled it back and the incredible comeback saw FaZe secure the map in overtime at 19-16 as Navi let the match slip due to their own inability to close out a game in a tense situation.
The win meant FaZe qualified for the playoffs while it was the end of the road for Navi and s1mple. Regarded as one of the all time greats, if not the greatest, s1mple will end his CS:GO career with one Major trophy.
There for the first, not for the last
CS:GO's first Major champions, fnatic will end CS:GO with three Major trophies as they will not have a chance to tie with Astralis for the most number of Majors at 4. fnatic were stunned by British team Into the Breach, who reverse swept them. fnatic started strongly but they were outplayed in the second and third map as Into the Breach became the first ever UK core team to make it to the CS:GO Major playoffs.
While it will be a dark day for fnatic, this is probably the greatest day till date in the UK CS:GO scene and hopefully the region grows on this to become a thriving Counter-Strike region.
A comeback for the ages
Another one of CS:GO's most iconic organisations, Ninjas in Pyjamas were inches away from booking their spot in the Champions Stage but the Ninjas faltered on their own pick to see Apeks comeback and secure the map 19-17 on overtime after being 8-3 ahead. On Apeks' pick of Ancient, Ninjas were 14-3 up and let it slip once again as they failed to close out the game which saw Apeks take the series 2-0 by securing Ancient 19-16. Apeks became the final team to secure the final spot in the Champions Stage as they head to the Accor Arena for the playoffs.
