SpawN: ''Marcos Gaming are a more tactical team than Gods Reign''
Triumphant captain SpawN, who picked up his first CS2 trophy, incidentally his first one with Enigma Gaming as well, had a short chat with Dust2 India following their win at the Esportz Premier Series Grand Final, where they took down Marcos Gaming 2-0 in the final.
SpawN discusses about having prepared for Gods Reign and then getting to know a day before that they will face Marcos Gaming, since Gods Reign had to opt out due to their Asia Closed Qualifiers campaign.
To be really frank, it (the change of Gods Reign to Marcos Gaming) changed a lot of plans. We were not prepared for them, we were prepared for Gods Reign and then a day before we got to know Gods Reign backed out and Marcos Gaming would replacing them. I really wanted to play Gods Reign on LAN because I need to settle a score with them. We won against them in DreamHack but this would've been a great win.
Even though SpawN didn't get his dream of settling the score with Gods Reign, the Enigma Gaming captain mentioned about the strength of Marcos Gaming and what sets them apart from Gods Reign.
Facing Marcos is not an easy task, unlike Gods Reign they are a very tactical team. Gods Reign aren't a very tactical team, they rely a lot on individual strength. I had less time to prep for the Final against Marcos but we stuck to the basics and the players believed in me and we managed to deliver.
Talking about the opening map on Mirage, where they started 8-2 on the T side but almost let it slip that saw Marcos get to map point first, SpawN says them missing crucial kills and losing to two back-to-back eco rounds gave the momentum to Marcos.
I knew it that even after their comeback, if we take it to OT we could pull it off. I told the boys to win 1-2 rounds on CT and we'll win this. And then it was a clean sweep on T side.
SpawN mentions that after the opening map, the admins spoke to both teams and said that with the delays, production was getting delayed a lot and the tournament organisers would not be able to hold a BO5 as they had to host another title after that.
Even though it was mutually agreed by both teams, SpawN does mention that it was a bit disappointing to not play a BO5.
Talking about Ancient, where Enigma started 0-5, SpawN mentions even though it was a poor start, him and hattygOD had strong reads.
After getting our first round, we took a timeout and then I took two more because even one round loss their would give back the momentum to them. Round after round, we had the reads and it was just as we expected.
Enigma Gaming's captain also revealed a bit about his leadership style saying that he isn't a micro-managing captain.
I don't micro-manage. Catastr0phE is someone who can't be micro-managed. I expect individuals to give me a lot of information and I call around them, especially with mid-round calls. On Ancient it was hattygOD, who took the initiative as he was reading them well and I was supporting him. I called mid-round and closed the rounds.
After taking his first trophy with Enigma, SpawN says that the team is now hungry for more trophies and he is to take them to the top. Mentally SpawN has prepped his team for the 2024 season and are looking forward to a successful season.
It wasn't a smooth transition (integrating the new players) as a couple of players are low on LAN experience. With my experience, I needed to motivate them a bit more but I didn't see any of them take pressure and that made me comfortable. I expect to achieve more with this team.
