Renatra: "I think they (Gods Reign) brought something new to the game today"
Things didn't bode well for the Indonesian Squad on the opening day of Skyesports Grand Slam 2024, as GRDX conceded a 2-0 loss to Gods Reign in a fairly one-sided contest. Dust2 India caught up with Renatra from GRDX following their loss to delve deeper into their performance n a post-match interview.
On asked if GRDX's relative obscurity compared to other tournament teams might work in their favor, Renatra acknowledged the potential advantage of being unknown but recognized the opponents' experience as a significant factor.
Well, obviously, the unknown factor is probably an advantage, I mean, they don't know, how we play, they don't know what we are capable of, but it is still not that much of a problem for them. I mean, they got so much, so much experience on playing in the professional scenes, better than us.
And, we basically like, don't get a lot of support. This is just our first contract to play on international matches. We usually play on local matches in Indonesia. So, yeah. It is an advantage, but you can see there, they're still better than us, I believe.
When questioned about their loss in the opening map, Renatra reflected on their over reliance on aim and the opponents' effective use of tactics.
We became too much dependent on our aim. We thought that, after winning a couple of rounds, we could outmatch them only by just aim. But then after a couple of rounds, after we got buy rounds, they started to do their tricks like they did their flashes, they did what they have been preparing for. So yeah, we just didn't expect them to play like that even though they got more matches on YouTube and we watched them how they play, but I think they brought something new to the game today.
The second map saw an even more gruesome defeat for GRDX as Gods Reign trampled them on the T-side, securing 11 rounds on the T-side.
Obviously, our, mentality was already broken down from the last match. And just like I said, this is our first experience. Maybe it had a lot of impact on us. And we couldn't keep up with the strategy that we built, yesterday and, weeks ago.
GRDX is set to go head-to-head against BNK tomorrow in the lower bracket final. Renatra remains optimistic, expressing belief in their ability to surprise BNK and secure a victory, should luck be on their side.
I would believe we could surprise them, like probably get, a couple of rounds and, if we are lucky we can win against them. We watched how they play, against Aurora on the second map. They won like, 13-4 if I believe. So, yeah, we'll see tomorrow, but we are confident that we can surprise them
