Liquid, G2 start Chengdu campaign with wins
The opening set of games at IEM Chengdu 2024 saw cadiaN take on his former squad in HEROIC as Liquid faced the Danes in the Group A opening game. The other game had G2 going up against 9z.
The BO1 kicked off on Ancient between Liquid and HEROIC with Liquid starting 6-0 on the T side. HEROIC managed to salvage the half by getting six in a row to tie up the score. Twistzz and cadiaN powered up to retake the lead for Liquid after picking up the second pistol. While HEROIC managed to put together a couple of rounds, Liquid made sure to close it out quickly at 13-8.

9z began the other game with a big lead on Nuke on their T side as they went 5-2 up early but G2 finally got their CT half going after a tech-pause that saw them take a 7-5 lead. A NiKo triple helped G2 secure the second pistol and it looked like G2 were cruising to a comfortable win but 9z's defensive half saw them hang on and bring it to a two-round game at 12-10. G2 eventually made sure 9z couldn't make the comeback stick as they wrapped it up at 13-10.
