
The MongolZ scrape past Complexity in IEM Melbourne 2025 opener
An unusually sloppy performance from The MongolZ saw them survive a valiant effort from Complexity with the Asian team reverse sweeping their way to a 2-1 win to start their IEM Melbourne 2025 campaign with a win, picking up a win in the Group A upper bracket quarter-final.
Complexity's pick of Anubis saw The MongolZ T side take a four round lead as they closed the opening half with three in a row and were 11-5 up before an incredible comeback from Complexity, led by Grim and hallzerk saw Complexity close out the map with eigth rounds in a row to take a 13-11 win. Ancient saw The MongolZ race away to an 8-0 start on their CT half and after a 10-2 half, The MongolZ almost dropped another massive lead, this time from 12-5 as Complexity CT half saw them push the map to overtime but it was The MongolZ holding on for a 16-13 win.
The decider on Inferno was a trade of rounds after The MongolZ started with the T side pistol and conversions, which saw them take a two-round lead at the end of the opening half. Complexity once again pulled things back in the second half but a crucial bLitz 1v1 clutch against nicx and 910's AWP going finding late impact saw The MongolZ hold on for a 13-10 win to steal the series 2-1.
The win sees The MongolZ move into the upper bracket semi-final, where they will face FaZe while Complexity drop to the lower bracket, where the North American side will fight against paiN to avoid elimination.
