With Valve yet to give more information about CS2's release, ESL to go ahead with CS:GO events

No CS2 event is planned at this time, according to ESL

ESL declares no CS2 event until further notice

A tweet from ESL's Head of Game Ecosystem for CS:GO announced the ESL Pro Tour for the remainder of the season.

In light of the uncertainty surrounding the release of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), he clarified that the events will take place in CS:GO until CS2 is officially announced. In order, the schedule goes:

  • IEM Cologne 2023 (July 27th)

  • ESL Challenger League (August 15th)

  • ESL Pro League Season 18 (August 30th)

  • ESL Challenger Jönköping (November 24th)

CS2 was announced at the end of March, available to a selected player base as part of a beta test. It was suggested in the announcement that the release would be in Summer of 2023, but no actual date was given. The only map available to the players was dust_2, which was replaced by Mirage in a major update that came out in June.

Even though CS2 is set to replace CS:GO in the foreseeable future, it has still been plagued with bugs since its beta release. In spite of Valve's best efforts to fix the bugs reported by testers, the game is still not ready for official release

In CS2, not many tournaments have been announced. The only CS2 tournaments announced are the much anticipated CS2 Major that will take place in Copenhagen next year and $1m LAN that will take place in Poland in September. As Valve, who likes to keep its release dates secret, the TO’s continue to proceed with CS:GO tournaments.
