HRH Crown Prince announces Esports World Cup
At the New Global Sport Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Esports Federation and Saudi Ministry of Sport took a giant leap forward unveiling ambitious plans to propel the region onto the global esports stage.
With industry leaders including G2 Esports, ESL FACEIT Group, Sega of America, Sony, Team Vitality, Guild Esports, Krafton India, BITKRAFT Ventures, Ubisoft, LGD Gaming, Team Falcons, Formula E, Ninjas in Pyjamas and a few others, having confirmed their presence at the event, the anticipation leading up to it was very high.
The highlight of the event came when HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, also known as HRH Crown Prince MBS, took the stage and unveiled the Esports World Cup.
Set to be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2024, this annual multi-title competition will replace the Gamers8 event, known for its substantial prize pool exceeding $45 million USD this year.
The event also saw the announcement of the Esports World Cup Foundation, described as a non-profit organization aimed at fostering collaboration among esports stakeholders and supporting the sustainability of the global esports ecosystem.
