Rooster takes down JohnIndustries in IEM Sydney 2023 Oceania Closed Qualifier
JohnIndustries' (JOH) pick of Mirage was the opening map with Rooster starting on the CT side. JOH started with a 3-0 after taking the opening pistol and two conversions after that against the force and eco. A strong A hold from asap and TJP saw Rooster take the opening gun round and an asap triple in the following round on the other bombsite saw them bring it to a one-round game. Rooster took the lead at 5-3 after taking five in a row, but JOH kept themselves in the half as both teams kept trading rounds, which saw Rooster end with a 9-6 lead at the half.
A nettik triple saw Rooster take the second pistol and secure their tenth round but JOH answered back on a force buy with HUGHMUNGUS coming in with a huge triple kill with the Scout. Rooster took a 12-7 lead before JOH tied up the game at 12-12 with five-straight rounds. The teams kept it close before a crucial multi-kill from nettik from Connector saw Rooster take map point at 15-14 and managed to hang on to take their opponents map pick at 16-14.
Rooster's pick of Inferno was the second map with JohnIndustries starting on the defensive side. Rooster took the opening pistol but JOH picked up the force buy with a team ace. It was dominant T side from Rooster as they took a 10-5 with TjP having multiple quad kill rounds.
Rooster took the second pistol and were up 12-5 before JOH got their first T round. JOH managed to put together a string of rounds as they were threatening a comeback with 12 rounds but it was chelleos' AWP that came in with crucial multi-kills that helped Rooster close the map at 16-12 and pick up the series 2-0.
