Shanghai Major: Chinese Open Qualifier Day 2 Recap

The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 - China RMR Open Qualifiers ended today, with 5 teams solidifying their spot in the Closed Qualifiers. The 4 Qualified teams that emerged victorious in the BO3 Quarter-Finals then proceeded to BO1s in the semi-finals and finals for seeding purpose, while the losing teams went to 5th place decider bracket. Here is a quick recap of the today's results:

Quarter-Finals

Bromo vs Steel Helmet

The first Quarter-Final took us to a matchup between Bromo and Steel Helmet, where Bromo dispatched Steel Helmet, reducing them to single digit scorelines on both maps. Steel Helmet lost their own map pick of Mirage 5-13, and were then eliminated after losing Ancient 9-13. Each individual stepped up for Bromo, with the lowest rating on the side being a 1.21.

XNL vs BORING PLAYER

Second Quarter-Final unfolded between XNL and BORING PLAYER, where the BO3 kickstarted on the former's chosen map Nuke. The first map went in the favour of XNL after an 8-4 T-half, which they converted to a 13-9 win. While BORING PLAYER bounced back with a 19-16 overtime win on Anubis, they forfeited the match due to medical conditions deeming a player unfit to play, conceding the series to XNL.

Teamwork vs kz5

The next BO3 took us to a matchup between Teamwork and kz5, which turned out to be another lopsided affair. Kicking off on their own map pick Nuke, Ar1s led the charge with a solid 1.73 rated performance, securing a 13-6 win. Ar1s continued the onslaught on the second map Mirage, notching a 13-1 win to close up the series 2-0 in their favour.

red demon vs SHPL

The final Quarter-Final matchup took place between red demon and SHPL, that went the distance. While SHPL went 1-0 in the series by trouncing their opponents 13-6 on their map pick Dust2, red demon returned the favour with a dominant 13-3 win on Ancient. As it all boiled down to the final map, Anubis, SHPL narrowly managed to run away with the map, culminating in a 13-11 win.

SEMI-FINAL

Bromo vs XNL
The BO1 kicked off on Mirage, where Bromo found a 7-5 lead in the first half to kick off their T-side. While the game became neck and neck in the second half, Bromo narrowly edged out XNL to win 13-11.

Teamwork vs SHPL

Teamwork locked horns with SHPL on Ancient in the second semi-final. They started off on the T-side to find a 7-5 lead. In the second half, they dominated on their CT side to trounce SHPL with a 13-6 scoreline.

5th Place Decider

Steel Helmet vs BORING PLAYER
BORING PLATER had to withdraw from the Qualifier as medical emergency rendered a player unable to play, Steel Helmet got a bye and proceeded to the. 5th place decider match.

kz5 vs red demon

The BO1 took place on Inferno, with Nbc1 substituting Shukba1 on the side of kz5. However, the team suffered a heavy 2-13 loss, after only able to manage 1 round on their T-side, and were eliminated.

Steel Helmet vs Red demon

In a last ditch effort to secure the final slot left for the Closed Qualifiers, Steel Helmet went up against Red Demon. Starting off on Mirage, red demon upset Steel Helmet to secure a 13-10 win. However, Steel Helmet then reverse swept red demon after two dominant 13-7 and 13-2 wins on Ancient and Inferno respectively to win the series 2-1.

FINAL

Teamwork vs Bromo

The Final took us to Ancient where Bromo fought off against the second semi-final winner Teamwork. FlOURN, who has been stellar throughout the tournament for Brono, stepped up once again, as Bromo established a 9-3 lead on the T-side. While Teamwork retaliated in the second half, they failed to close out the map, losing by a 8-13 margin.

With today's victories, the five teams have secured their spots in the Closed Qualifiers. The final list of teams now stands as follows
