Rare Atom outlasts ATOX in three-map thriller
With a spot at IEM Rio 2024 up for grabs it was the final four teams battling it out in the IEM Rio 2024 Asia Closed Qualifier. Rare Atom went up against ATOX in the upper bracket semi-final with the Mongolian team getting in the server with yAmi, who had returned to the team a couple of days ago.
Rare Atom's pick of Anubis got things going with a strong T side from ATOX that saw them start with an 8-4 lead. A perfectly executed, intuitive 1v2 clutch in the pistol on the A site from kaze saw Rare Atom lock in a much needed pistol and an incredible T side from the Chinese team saw them run away with a 13-10 win with kaze leading from the front with 27 kills. Rare Atom looked set for a 2-0 following a seven-round CT side start on ATOX's pick of Ancient but a solid defensive half from the Mongolian team with dobu and yAmi having strong performances saw ATOX stay alive in the series with a 13-10 win.
The decider on Inferno was as tight as it could get as neither team was willing to concede. A back-and-forth affair saw L1haNg power up in the final few rounds on Rare Atom's defence to see the Chinese squad hold on for a 13-11 win to take the series 2-1. Rare Atom will face TYLOO later on today in the upper bracket final while ATOX will fight for survival against CatEvil in the Lower Bracket Final, which is a direct elimination game.
