G2's CEO comments on NiKo's future
In nearly an hour long interview, MCG France featured Alban Dechelotte, the CEO of G2 Esports. Dechelotte spoke about a variety of stuff relating G2's Counter-Strike division and other broader parts of the organization but a segment where he talks about NiKo future with the org, has stood out and caught the community's ears.
When asked about NiKo's rumored potential move to Falcons, Dechelotte's comments suggested that while G2 has the ability to retain the Bosnian star due to his ongoing contract, they are considering various possibilities for the roster's future. He hinted that their July signing of malbsMd, who shares similar in-game positions with NiKo, might have been part of a forward-looking strategy.
Maybe we're already working on who will replace malbs in his anchor position, and he could move into the positions that NiKo will be leaving
Alban Dechelotte, CEO, G2 Esports
"Because he has several years left on his contract, we could have done so," Dechelotte noted about the possibility of keeping NiKo. He also suggested that the organization might be exploring options for roster adjustments, including potentially repositioning malbsMd in the future.
The CEO also addressed questions about m0NESY's future with the organization. While acknowledging the strong mentor-mentee relationship between m0NESY and NiKo, Dechelotte emphasized that the young Russian AWPer remains important to G2's plans.
We're working on what the G2 CS roster will look like in the future. For us, m0NESY is at the heart of the project
Alban Dechelotte, CEO, G2 Esports
"It's up to us. For him to leave, we'll have to accept that," Dechelotte stated regarding m0NESY's contract situation, which extends beyond a year. He highlighted that m0NESY, currently considered one of the world's best players, could potentially step into a more prominent role within the team.
These comments come amid ongoing speculations about NiKo possibly joining Falcons, an organization that has shown interest in building a high-profile roster since entering the Counter-Strike scene. Earlier this year, there were discussions about NiKo potentially moving to Falcons, though no deal materialized at the time. Recently, esports journalist Richard Lewis also hinted on the possibility of this transfer, referring to a report by 1pn.fr's neL.
