ZywOo best in Rio as he takes home IEM Rio 2023 MVP award
Vitality's talisman Mathieu 'ZywOo' Herbaut was awarded the HLTV x 1xBet MVP award for the recently concluded IEM Rio 2023. The Frenchman boosted of an incredible 1.31 rating in the tournament and was the uncontested choice for the tournament's best player.
ZywOo was on form from game one, and even though Vitality kicked off their IEM Rio 2023 campaign with a loss to OG, ZywOo managed to keep a rating of 1.00+ in all of the 15 maps he played in the tournament. The French AWP-er had an incredible 2.31 rating against OG on Inferno, during Vitality's lower-bracket run and his lowest rating in the tournament was a 1.01 rating in the opening match loss to OG on Overpass, which Vitality lost in overtime 21-23. ZywOo stepped up against some of the biggest teams in the world at the moment, dropping ratings of 1.19, 1.23 and 1.34 against the likes of FaZe Clan, BIG and Cloud9 respectively.
Even though he ended up with a 1.31 rating in the tournament and had some quintessential ZywOo moments, single handedly winning the rounds for his team, his Rio triumph was relatively easier than his past MVP award-winning campaigns. Vitality had not only ZywOo firing but the likes of Lotan 'Spinx' Giladi, Emil 'Magisk' Reif and Peter 'dupreeh' Rasmussen all stepped up during crucial moments in the tournament. While ZywOo was consistently top of the charts for most of Vitality's games, it was Spinx who had a couple of strong series during Vitality's lower-bracket run while it was the veteran dupreeh who stepped up in the knock-out games. Spinx finished the tournament with a 1.25 rating while dupreeh left Rio with a 1.12 rating.
The Frenchman himself admitted in a post-match interview with HLTV, stating that he had 'less pressure' on his shoulders with the others stepping up. For ZywOo and his team, it's the Paris Major next up and Vitality go into with their star player in red-hot form.
