FaZe are hanging by a thread as they drop into the 0-2 pool

Paris Major 2023 Legends Stage: Day 1 recap

A quick recap of the day's action

The first day of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 Legends Stage is over and it had plenty of action. We saw a couple of favourites step up and put in strong performances and we also had a host of upsets, with multiple 'tournament favourites' being taken down by relatively smaller teams.

At the end of the first day, we have an extremely interesting 0-2 bracket with the likes of G2 and FaZe a loss away from elimination.

If you missed the opening day's action, we've got it covered for you with a quick recap.

Round 1:

Natus Vincere (Navi) started their first day of the Legends Stage against GamerLegion with the first map of the day being played on Mirage. Navi took a 9-6 lead on the CT half and then closed out the game at 16-10 to go 1-0 up. Liquid faced 9INE in their opening game and the Poles were no match for Liquid as NAF and nitr0 helped Liquid take an easy 16-9 win.

The first surprise of the day came when Monte shocked a lacklustre FURIA, who did not manage to get even a single T round on Ancient as they went down 7-16 to the Ukrainians. fnatic took down old rival Ninjas in Pyjamas 16-11 on Nuke while Heroic shut down FaZe 16-7. Apeks beat Into the Breach 16-10 while the much anticipated Vitality and G2 match delivered as ZywOo stepped up to see Vitality through. The final round 1 game saw ENCE take down Bad News Eagles 16-9 on Vertigo.

Round 2:

The first game of the second round kicked off with Liquid and Navi and in a surprising turn of events, Liquid demolished Navi 16-8 as YEKINDAR bullied the Ukrainian team. fnatic and Monte brawled out on Vertigo with Monte emerging victorious in overtime to end their day 2-0.

Bad News Eagles caused a major upset as they sent tournament favourites G2 to the 0-2 bracket after beating them 16-13 on Ancient. What a day it was. RIP 0-3 pickems for most people I guess and it's sad to see the state of teams like 9INE who performed so well in earlier tournaments and more so for FaZe and G2. G2 I can understand because firstly Vitality and then BNE? BNE still proving to be the upset gods.

As for FaZe I think they just don't care at the moment. Even if they try their best, deep inside they know they have cemented their name in history. It is not their fault for that but I thought the way they qualified for the major they still had it but let's hope for the best.

It seems it is possible to get a matchup between G2 and FaZe for elimination in the later stages and it will hard to digest the result, no matter the way it goes :( but overall, all of the matches have been insane and I am loving the vibes.

From Apex going mad only after winning pistol to CadiaN's emotional speech to the BNE guys displaying their raw passion to Yekindar and Liquid absolutely destroying tournament contenders? THIS IS F****** COUNTER STRIKE <3
