TheMongolz push Heroic to the limit in Cologne Opener
An amazing match of counter-strike between Heroic and TheMongolz as the Danish giants were pushed to their limits in the three map affair.
TheMongolz started off with a pistol round win that gave them three rounds at the start of Mirage. Despite Heroic having a B site in the first gun round, bLitz got three headshots with his AK to get his team the fourth. Heroic took back-to-back rounds, and cadiaN T-bagged for good measure as the Danes got into the flow of the game.
A lightning-fast 910 led the charge for a B-split, giving TheMongolz their 6th round before Heroic closed that gap 6-6. Down in a 1v1, Mzinho called cadiaN’s bluff to clutch it out for TheMongolz, keeping the Asian squad competitive against the best team in the world.
Heroic started the second half up 8-7, but the Mongolian side went on another set of 5 rounds to put up a massive 12-8 lead. Heroic did manage to put together a couple more rounds, but TheMongolz still held strong, blitzing through their opponents and taking the map 16-11.
TheMongolz were unable to carry that energy initially into Overpass as Heroic started with a 7-2 lead. That was, however, the last round Heroic won in that half as bLitz’s crew went on a massive streak of 8 in a row to take the lead 10-7. Everyone except 910 was performing well as TheMongolz hit 13.
Finally, jabbi on the B site broke the long silence for his team with a double. And that spurred his team on to take three rounds in a row and reach double digits. TheMongolz needed the 24th round to keep their economy in check, but a beautiful triple from TeSeS denied them that luxury, forcing them to another eco.
A broken buy was all TheMongolz could muster but that was enough to break through the triple stacked A defence to get the lead back at 14-13. Confidence back on their side, they rushed through the map to hit matchpoint. And in an absolutely wild round 28, Heroic somehow came out on top to keep themselves alive and push the game to Overtime.
After another mind-bender in the first round of OT, Heroic's CT side was online again, allowing them to take matchpoint 18-15. No slouches on the defence themselves, bLitz led the charge to stop Heroic in their tracks, sneaking out the defusal to push us into OT. After so many spectacular plays from bLitz, he finally blundered as he got caught between two targets in connector, giving Heroic matchpoint once again and this time the Danes closed it out to take the series to a third.
Mzinho started off Inferno with massive kills to get the map started. 3 back to back blunders from Heroic put TheMongolz up at 5. bLitz broke through the B defence to reach 7, but Heroic’s defence came through thanks to jabbi and TeSeS’ deagles and mannaged to take the lead 8-7.
Another pistol went the Mongolz way, but Heroic answered back and kept control of the half, extending to a 12-8 lead. With the economy broken, it looked like TheMongolz would be out for the count, but techno broke the game in half as he nailed TeSeS in the head through a smoke to take an eco win. Still it wasn't enough as Heroic barely edged the win out, taking the opener of Group A.
