GamerLegion eliminate TheMongolz

GamerLegion dispatch TheMongolz from Cologne

TheMongolz once again barely fall short in a back-and-forth 3-mapper.

After the disappointing end to the Heroic series, TheMongolz went up against neaLaN’s GamerLegion in a fight for survival at Cologne.

Starting off on Mirage, bLitz’s squad started with a pistol win and went 6-0 up, running through the GL defence like a hot knife through butter. 910, who was having some trouble against Heroic yesterday, was on another plane of gameplay, winning every duel he took. With the AWPer hitting 20 frags in the first half, TheMongolz took a 12-3 lead in the half. Switching sides, the Asian squad quickly hit matchpoint before GL had a chance to answer. But the international side had a much better plan on the T side as they slowly came online, taking the game all the way to 15-8 before Mongolz were able to close it out finally.

Moving over to Inferno, TheMongolz were looking confident to take the series in two. But much like their run on Mirage, GL went on a streak of 8 in a row. Mirroring the previous map, GL took a 12-3 lead at halftime and then closed it out at 16-8, with keoz and acoR dominating the Mongolians.

After such dominant maps from both sides, one might expect Overpass to be an ultra-close affair, but the start of the map was anything but. GamerLegion was truly alive after that Inferno as they started with a pistol win and once again took a massive round-haul going all the way up to 10-1 as acoR looked unstoppable. bLitz and Mzinho still kept hope, and they struck in round 12, pulling their team back to an 11-4 half.

A pistol round in the second half was essential for TheMongolz to keep themselves in the game. isak’s five-seven stole three frags in the forcebuy to give GamerLegion their 12th, but 910 and co. were unwilling to give up so easily. With just the Deagles in their hands, they broke through the GL defence and started building their T side.

Slowly but surely, they eroded the GL lead, taking themselves to 9-12. With the momentum on their side, 910 was coming back into his Mirage form with his 1v1 on the A site giving TheMongolz their 10th. With GL facing an equalizer, they were able to hold the attack off to get their 13th finally. The two teams went back and forth from that point, with GL's back-to-back saves finally allowing TheMongolz to equalize. But the international squad still managed to survive, pushing the game into Overtime.

In Overtime, TheMongolz once again seemed to crumble as GL took a flawless first half and they closed it out to eliminate the Asian representatives from IEM Cologne.
