SpawN: "If N1kace and BENZENE are given the right guidance, they can become the best"
After yet another demolition against Gods Reign to make sure they end their first day at DreamHack Hyderabad 2023 flawlessly, we had a chance to talk to SpawN about his team's performance on Day 1.
Great showing today. You seemed to have the perfect read for the most part of your CT half. Did you study their demos well?
I think they didn't expect us to come so prepared. We practiced hardly 4-5 days but it was really valuable. We knew it was a double round robin so we put all our focus on 5 maps. It came as a surprise because no one has seen us play. Coming onto demos, I saw Gods Reign play Anubis. So I set up my team accordingly. I knew this would work, and we were well prepared. Also, our players were feeling the game today. We were all on the same note. So it worked out well for us.
As an IGL, how are you responsible for making sure your players perform on all cylinders?
I will start by talking about individual performances. I start by making sure people are in the game. I start by talking about the game right from the morning on our game days. I make sure that no one is absent mentally. I have played for 4-5 years and in many teams, so I know how important being active is. I encourage people to speak and I listen to them. Then I try to understand them so I can help them. Like today, hatty, who is playing his first LAN, came up to me with an idea. I said bindass jaa (go freely).
Your lineup has some really young guys with a lot of potential. Among them, who would you say has the most potential and is pretty underrated at the moment?
I think Rider is pretty experienced. He is a 1.6 legend so I won't talk about him. N1kace is also a really good player. I think both N1kace and BENZENE are one of the hardest working players I have ever played with. And N1kace somehow manages this while working a full-time job. I think if these two are given guidance, they can become some of the best players.
