Valve sued for £656 Million in UK
The Competition Appeal Tribunal in London has initiated a case against Valve for allegedly charging an excessive commission of 30% by eliminating competitors.
Digital rights campaigner Vicki Shotbolt brought this case forward, accusing Valve of forcing game publishers to sign up for price parity obligations, which prevent titles from being sold at lower prices on rival platforms.
Ms. Shotbolt claims that Valve has breached UK competition law for at least six years, overcharging 14 million people in the UK. She aims "to stop this unlawful conduct and help people get back what they are owed."
The claim is supported by the legal firm Milberg London LLP, known for bringing group action cases against large companies. In such cases, one person represents a much larger group of people in court.
A stat from SignHouse reveals Valve has experienced a remarkable surge in its net worth. In 2017, the company's net worth was reported to be $99 million, but it is now estimated to exceed $8 billion. In 2023 alone, Valve generated over $13 billion in revenue.
