Can you still play CS:GO?

Counter-Strike 2 hits official release

Counter-Strike 2 has arrived and the game has seemed to have kept up with the hype for the most part. While the community is neck deep in adapting to the change, the question remains - Is CS:GO still playable?

CS:GO is still playable on FACEIT but just requires an additional download. In the library page of Steam, right clicking on Counter-Strike 2 and selecting properties shows us various tabs. Just head over to the Betas tab and in the "Beta Participation" drop down menu select "csgo_demo_viewer - 1.38.7.9". This will initiate a ~15GB download and once completed, CS:GO can be played on FACEIT. To revert the change and go back to Counter-Strike 2, just reopen the Betas tab and set "Beta Participation" to "None".

CS:GO can be opened by opting into "csgo_demo_viewer - 1.38.7.9" beta

Valve did not market Counter-Strike 2 as a brand new game but just a free upgrade to the already existing game - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, meaning that it would replace CS:GO. Although playable when opted into the "csgo_demo_viewer - 1.38.7.9" beta, there are speculations that valve might release legacy version of the game for offline/LAN play, considering that all the other iterations of Counter-Strike have their standalone versions on Steam.
