IEM returns to Sydney after 4 years

CS:GO pros voice their opinions on CS2’s readiness

We’re just a couple of weeks away from the first high profile CS2 tournament

IEM Sydney 2023 will be the first major CS2 tournament and is set to commence in a couple of weeks. While the community eagerly awaits to see how CS2 plays out at the pro level, the pros have voiced out their opinions on whether CS2 is esports-ready in it’s current state.

The movement, spraying and peeker’s advantage because of lag compensation were the most commonly voiced out concerns by the pros as well as the community. Twistzz even pointed out that the initial bloom of smoke grenades were inconsistent.

NiKo also took to X, to state that while the game (CS2) felt nice, it wasn't ready for competitive play in it's current state.

Another talking point has been the adaptation of MR12s in pro play, which has received mixed opinions from the pros.

As per BetwayCS2's post on X, ropz shares a similar viewpoint as that of NiKo, stating that the game is playable in a casual setting but not quite ready for the pro level yet. The new sub-tick system comes with it's share of merits and demerits, in one of NaToSaphiX's videos, ropz can be seen judging the tickrate correctly 100% of the time just by using mouse1.

In ESL's video NAF, n0rb3r7 and woxic can be seen voicing out concerns about how the spray and movement feels in CS2. floppy sees MR12s as a welcome change breaking the tediousness of MR15s and NAF stated that tapping and burst fire felt solid.

While most of the pros share the opinion that Counter-Strike 2 is not ready for pro play yet, some also believe that just going ahead with it might help Valve to step in with optimizations and improvements that can better accommodate the game for competitive play.
