The MongolZ start IEM Cologne 2024 with a loss
IEM Cologne 2024's first round of games saw Asia's best, The MongolZ start their campaign towards the main stage against SAW in the upper bracket round of 16 game.
The series kicked off on Anubis which saw The MongolZ hold the early advantage. story's AWP quad kill at middle looked like it would be bring SAW back into the half but The MongolZ fought back and ended the half with a low buy hit on the A site to take an 8-4 lead. Switching to their T side, SAW abused a weak B hold from The MongolZ, which saw them start the series with a 16-13 win.
A couple of crucial clutches saw SAW start Ancient with a 4-1 but following a technical pause, it was seven straight rounds from The MongolZ to close out the opening half with a big lead. The MongolZ were much more dominant on their CT side, dropping just one round as they stomped the Portuguese squad 13-5 to keep themselves alive in the series.
Dust2 was a statement from SAW, as they ran through The MongolZ, starting with a 10-2 half and easing to a 13-5 win to lock in a 2-1 series win. The loss sees The MongolZ drop down to the lower bracket and now will have to battle elimination in each of their games moving ahead.
