Shanghai Major: Playoffs preview
With FaZe's win over FURIA in the 2-2 pool yesterday, the Elimination Stage of the Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major came to an end, setting up an exciting playoffs bracket which is set to begin later this week on Thursday, 12th December 2024.
The playoffs will run a single-elimination bo3 bracket accommodating eight teams. Valve shipped out a small patch, updating the Pick'Em now enabling players to lock in their picks for the final stage of the Major.
Kicking things off are the local representatives, The MongolZ against MOUZ. The MongolZ blitzed through the elimination stage without losing a single match and on their way they defeated MOUZ in a bo1 which went into overtime. The MongolZ also put up a flawless run in the Opening Stage, as they remain undefeated going into the playoffs.
The other side of the bracket sees Vitality take on FaZe, where the former went through the Elimination Stage without dropping a single map, taking down GamerLegion, FURIA and MIBR. Spirit locks horns with Liquid, both of whom started with bo1 losses and then put up three wins in a row to clear the Elimination Stage.
The opening games round off with G2 taking on HEROIC. G2 started their Elimination Stage run with a loss against The MongolZ and have looked sharp ever since, handing out a 0-2 to FaZe after beating BIG and 3DMAX in bo1s. After winning their bo1s initially, HEROIC were pushed to the limits by The MongolZ and Spirit but eventually scraped through, taking down defending champions NAVI in the 2-2 pool.
MOUZ's Elimination Stage run started off in a shaky manner with losses against The MongolZ and FaZe after their bo1 win against paIN. MOUZ recovered towards the end, putting up 2-0s against 3DMAX and MIBR to qualify for the playoffs.
