The road to Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major

3 Major slots on the line at the Asia-Pacific RMR

The upcoming Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major has 3 slots open for teams qualifying from the Asia-Pacific region. The region is set to be jam-packed with twelve qualifiers (Open & closed), sending five teams to the Asia-Pacific RMR, where a double-elimination bracket sends three teams to the Major. Here's a quick look at how you can make it to the Shanghai Major.

  • Direct RMR invite

With the new no-retention policy, the only way a team can press their claim for a Major slot is through the RMRs. The Asia-Pacific RMR hands out direct invites to the top three teams in the Valve regional rankings so one way to get there would be to make it to Asia's top 3 before the RMR.

  • Closed qualifier invite

Without an RMR invite, Indian teams will have to go through the Rest of Asia qualifiers. The Rest of Asia closed qualifier hands out four invites based on Valve's regional rankings. Given that the top three teams head straight to the RMR, teams placed from fourth to eighth will secure closed qualifier invites.

  • Open qualifier

The open qualifiers are an added advantage to Indian teams considering the fact that these open qualifiers will not run in the Europe and American region. This road to the Major starts with an unforgiving single-elimination bo1 bracket that sends the top four teams to the Rest of Asia closed qualifier.

The Rest of Asia closed qualifier will accommodate the top four teams from the open qualifier and four invited teams based on Valve's regional rankings in a double-elimination bracket where elimination and qualification matches are bo3s. The winner advances to the Asia-Pacific RMR.

The Asia-Pacific RMR will host a total of eight teams. Alongside the region's top three teams, winners of the Chinese closed qualifier, East Asian closed qualifier, Rest of Asia closed qualifier and the Middle Eastern closed qualifier will battle it out in a double-elimination bracket where the opening rounds start with bo1s and the remainder of the bracket switches to a bo3 setting.

The Asia-Pacific RMR will run as a LAN event in Shanghai. A top three finish at the Asia-Pacific RMR guarantees a slot at the Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major.
