controlez: "We will turn this loss to a positive one and walk further and become stronger as a team together"
With The MongolZ taking big strides in the international scene, their success has not only given the Asian scene a boost but Mongolian Counter-Strike is also thriving as Mongolia is slowly becoming, if not already, the best Counter-Strike region in Asia.
One such team from Mongolia is Chinggis Warriors, who have been slowly making their name in Asia, regularly putting up strong performances in the region. The Mongolian team ended their run at the eXTREMESLAND Asia Open 2024 in the quarter-finals but they put up quite a fight against Rare Atom in the group stages, almosting upsetting the highest ranked team in the event, on their way to the final eight.
Following their loss to XO in the quarter-final, controlez from Chinggis Warriors spoke to Dust2 India about the quarter-final performance, his own numbers and more.
Can you talk us through the first map? You guys got a 10-9 lead at one point but could not close out the map, what went wrong?
We actually managed to execute our strategies and executes on Inferno quite well. It was only during that period that there were some communication lapses which led to us ultimately losing the map. Nonetheless, we don’t feel too beat up about our performance on Inferno.
You were once again the star for your team on Ancient, how do you put up such high impact performances regularly?
Every time I play I’m the MVP but it’s not my own effort. it’s teamwork that led me to be the MVP, my team assisted and supported me and that’s why I happened to become the MVP. I don’t feel particularly proud or honoured that I’m the MVP but I only have my team to thank, and anyone can actually be MVP. Very grateful to my team for the support to help me with this.
What did you guys do differently towards the end of Ancient to make a team like XO Esports struggle?
The first map we lost unfortunately because the content on XO online is very little and we didn’t know their opponent very well. We lost the first map because we were trying to pick up too much on XO’s playing style and playing too reactive. We managed to pull it back on Ancient because we finally got a bit of sensing of how they played, and we focused more on how we were playing - playing actively and implementing our strategy and good teamwork.
Talk us through your eXTREMESLAND journey and what this tournament means for Mongolian Counter-Strike. Is there anything you want to say to your fans back at home and the ones you’ve made here in the arena?
We are very honoured to represent Mongolia and our country in this competition. Very grateful to our team coach, management and the organisers, our family and friends and back in Mongolia. Their support is the team’s driving force. We will turn this loss to a positive one and walk further and become stronger as a team together. We wish all our fans and family happy new year, good health and good luck!
