"That should not have happened" - Champ on 4v2 failed retake on Dust2
VICTORES SUMUS faced an in-form Gods Reign in their first game at the Skyesports Souvenir 2025 National Championship. VICTORES SUMUS were washed out of Train with a crushing 2-13 loss but the team geared up and nearly pushed the next map into overtime.
In what started as a good T-side for VICTORES SUMUS, ended with a couple of tragic slip-ups towards the end. VICTORES SUMUS lost a couple of 4v2 rounds, giving Gods Reign the confidence and momentum to close out the map and wrap the series.
We had a chat with VICTORES SUMUS's IGL Champ after the game. Champ spoke about how the team didn't have enough scrim experience on Train and went on to speak about the conversations that followed after VICTORES SUMUS fumbled the 4v2 retake on B-site Dust2.
What happened on Train? You guys never really showed up?
Train! We knew they were going to pick Train but the thing is we didn't prepare Train that much and we didn't get to scrim a lot on that map, so yeah, that was it.
Things looked good for you guys on Dust2 but you weren’t able to close out rounds after getting initial picks. What went wrong?
I think those 4v2s and 5v2s that we lost, that shouldn't have happened. Especially that 4v2 we lost on the CT-side, on a fundamental level that should not have happened but it did. We lacked comms and panicked a bit, we missed some utility in that retake. Things could've been different if few mistakes were avoided but ultimately the team that did comparatively lesser mistakes won that map.
Those back to back 4v2s, what happened there? How important was that for your mental?
When we gave away that (5v2) round we just laughed it off and reset but later when we lost the 4v2 on CT-side, we talked about it like 'yeah we need to focus, something is clearly going wrong', and on top of that, they were doing good plays on T-side. They were actively searching for openings and would rotate to wherever they found that opening.
