Bad News Eagles let a possible upset slip

FaZe showcased resilience to keep their Major dreams alive after they took down Bad News Eagles (BNE) 2-1 in the elimination game in the Legends Stage of the Paris Major 2023. BNE hammered FaZe 16-3 in the opening map of the series on FaZe's pick and just as it seemed like FaZe would be heading out of the Major, FaZe hung on, to secure BNE's map pick on Mirage and on Inferno, BNE almost pulled off a miraculous comeback but FaZe held on to close out the series. FaZe now move into the 2-2 bracket while Bad News Eagles have to head home.

First up was FaZe's pick of Overpass with Bad News Eagles getting things started on the CT side. BNE shut down FaZe on the B site as they picked up the pistol round and had a clean conversion against the pistols to take a 2-0 lead. The first round saw FaZe come in with a clinical A execute to get themselves on the board. FaZe tied up the score quickly at 2-2 but BNE won the fifth round with nothing but one saved gun and pistols to retake the lead. Two triple kill holds from rigoN and juanflatroo saw BNE go 5-2 up. BNE won out the half early as they kept shutting down every FaZe execute and kept their opponent's economy broken every second round to go up 8-2 in no time. A crucial karrigan double saw FaZe secure their third in the fourteenth round of the half as BNE ended the first half with an incredible 12-3 lead.

BNE took both pistol in the game as they secured their thirteenth. Two conversions against force buys from FaZe saw BNE secure map point at 15-3. A brutal B execute saw BNE wrap up the map at 16-3 and take an early 1-0 lead in the series. It was rigoN who ended on top of the scoreboard with 22 kills and a rating of 1.81. Four of the five BNE players have a rating of 1.30 or more on Overpass.

FaZe had no answer to rigoN's firepower on Overpass

FaZe fought for their lives in the tournament on Mirage and it was BNE once again who won the pistol, starting on the T site. SENER1's 1v2 on the A site saw BNE take an early 3-0 lead. FaZe put their first round on the board after a strong hold from broky on A site. A ropz triple on the AWP on the A site saw FaZe put up their seventh round before a strong A hold from Twistzz and rain saw FaZe win the first half by picking up their eighth. FaZe ended the first half with a 9-6 lead as they switched sides.

A quad kill from rain in the pistol round kicked things off perfectly for FaZe in the perfect way as they hit double digits. BNE responded on a force buy which broke FaZe's economy and saw BNE cut FaZe's lead to one round. A ropz quad kill including a 1v2 saw FaZe secure their thirteenth round and build back a four round lead. BNE converted an eco round with nothing but pistol to secure their tenth. sinnopsyy's heroic double kill on the B site saw BNE get right back in the match as they put FaZe on upgraded pistols in the 26th round. A gxx- ace on the B site with an AWP saw BNE cut FaZe's lead to two rounds as FaZe began feeling the heat at 14-12. gxx-'s 1v1 against rain saw BNE bring it to a one-round game as FaZe let a 5v4 slip. A clean hold from BNE in round 28 saw, BNE tie up the game at 14-14. BNE continued their momentum as it was them who took match point first. ropz stepped up when FaZe needed him the post as a triple kill from the Estonian on a B execute saw FaZe take the game to Overtime.

FaZe won the first round in Overtime but BNE bounced back to finish the first half of Overtime at 17-16. Two triple kills from Twistzz in the opening two rounds of the second half of Overtime 1 saw FaZe go 18-17. ropz held his own to secure the map for FaZe at 19-17 with a triple kill of his own on the A site to take the series to a third and final map on Inferno. It was ropz and broky on top of the scoreboard for FaZe after Mirage with both dropping 30 kills each.

The series decider, with both teams fighting to stay in the tournament, got underway on Inferno with BNE starting on the CT side. A karrigan triple kill saw FaZe secure the pistol and their conversions against the force buy and eco saw them take an early 3-0 lead. Early pressure on the B site saw FaZe take a quick 5-0 lead. A gxx- opener saw BNE put up their first defensive round but FaZe responded immediately with another B hit to get back on the board. A huge triple kill hold from juanflatroo on the A site saw BNE secure their second. Relentless hits on the B site, with BNE having no response saw FaZe end the first half with a 12-3 lead.

BNE won the final pistol of the series to secure their fourth round. FaZe were back on the board as soon as the guns were out but BNE replied back with a couple of rounds of their own to take the score to 10-13. A rain and karrigan hold on the B site saw FaZe secure their fourteenth round. juanflatroo and gxx- converted a 2v3 against a force buy from FaZe to get their twelfth round. BNE tied the game at 14-14 but a Twistzz triple kill on Banana saw FaZe secure match point. karrigan held his own on the A site as it was the man at the helm of FaZe who secured the series for FaZe and kept themselves alive in the tournament.
