Shanghai Major: Oceanic Open Qualifier day 1 recap
The Oceanic Open Qualifier for the upcoming RMR leading up to the Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major kicked off today. The opening round (Ro64) was quite uneventful with 42 teams confirming their slots out of 49 registered teams, resulting in 22 teams advancing to the next round, uncontested. Eight teams have locked in their qualification stage appearance and here's a look at how they got there.
The Art of War
The Ro32 began with DXA Esports getting a free pass into the next round, where they met The Art of War, who had stomped star casino enjoyers 13-0, to book their Ro16 slot. Even with Roflko in their arsenal, DXA Esports could at best put up a decent fight against The Art of War, as BaN4na stepped up with 19 frags at an ADR of 108 to take the team into the next round with a 13-6 win.
Shanghai Sharks
Shanghai Sharks' first game of the qualifier came in an Ro16 encounter against Pant Gang, who had taken down blackhounds 13-4. In the Ro16 matchup where Shanghai Sharks took on Pant Gang, KRAXYT, a familiar name in the CCT and ECl circuit stole the show with 22 frags at an ADR of 135 as Shanghai Sharks comfortably took down Pant Gang 13-2.
Making it into the Ro8, Shanghai Sharks have setup their qualification game against The Art of War.
TALON
TALON put up a 13-4 game against Marben Warriors and Above The Restt sent home RMR4FUN 13-3 in the Ro32 as both teams locked horns in the Ro16. Above The Restt stood no chance against TALON's firepower as mhL and AZR wreaked havoc on their enemies.
With just two players from Above The Restt crossing double figures, the team managed to secure just a couple rounds in the entirety of their showing against TALON, as the latter rolled into the qualification round with a 13-2 win. mhL's 17 frags and 120 ADR put TALON in the driver's seat.
SemperFidelis
After getting a bye in the first round, SemperFedilis took down Prowess 13-5 in the second round. In the Ro16, SemperFedilis made short work of Sun Run who had managed to squeeze out a narrow victory in their previous round. The bo1 took us to Anubis where vision and keenx took full advantage of the map's T-sidedness.
Dropping 19 frags and 17 frags each, keenx and vision propelled SemperFedilis into the next round, crashing Sun Run out of the qualifier with a dominant 13-2. SemperFedilis will take on TALON in the Ro8.
Vantage Esports
Vantage Esports took on Dan Company in their Ro16 match up. Dan Company who got a bye in the first round, struggled in the Ro32 against VizardCS but managed to squeeze out a 13-11 win. In their Ro16 game against Vantage Esports, things went far from ideal.
Dan Company had no answers to N1ghtraid and aleccx's aggression on the T-side of Ancient. Consistent entries put Dan Company at number disadvantages early in the round for the entirety of the game as Vantage Esports picked up a quick 13-1 win.
MANTRA
After wins against Team Ned and TERSUS in the initial rounds, MANTRA went up against ConfirmationBrew in the Ro16. After conceding an early 0-4 disadvantage on the CT-side of Inferno, MANTRA did not let things slip out of hand.
A hard fought 13-10 win off of cookie's frag-fest sent MANTRA into the Ro8, setting up their qualification match against Vantage Esports.
Arcade ESP
After getting a bye in the first round, Arcade ESP took down Godswork 13-5. Arcade ESP took on Tuvalu Embassy in the third round where a no-show sent them straight to the Ro16. Arcade ESP wait in the quarter-finals for their match against AbyssOCE.
AbyssOCE
AbyssOCE started their qualifier run with a bye in the first round but nearly got eliminated in the second round. A 13-11 win against Brick Smash, pushed AbyssOCE to the Ro16 thanks to 74LOR's 27 frags at an ADR of 94. AbyssOCE took on Burnt Toast in the Ro16 where X4AVIER and JohnSm1th went ballistic on the T-side of Ancient, dropping 23 and 20 frags each at ADRs of 130 and 116.
AbyssOCE sent home Burnt Toast, after a 13-5 win, booking their qualification round appearance where they face Arcade ESP.
