Skyesports Grand Slam 2024: Day 2 recap
After a first day full of excitement from the Skyesports Grand Slam 2024, the second day boasted some crucial matches. However, much to the dismay of fans, both contests ended in decidedly lopsided results. While Garuda Wishnu Voyage faced an early exit, Aurora climbed to a crag away from the auspicious trophy.
Bad News Kangaroos vs GRDX
The day kicked off with the lower bracket finals pitting Bad News Kangaroos (BNK) against Garuda Wishnu Voyage (GWDX). With elimination looming, the Indonesian squad, GRDX, struggled to find their footing, only securing 5 rounds across two maps. This marked the conclusion of their tournament journey. Nonetheless, it was an impressive debut in a major tournament for the team.
On the flip side, the Kangaroos sailed smoothly through their match against GRDX without breaking a sweat. For yourwombat, it served as valuable practice for the team as they now prepare to face Gods Reign tomorrow.
Gods Reign vs Aurora
Despite the lofty expectations, it turned out to be a rather unpleasant day for Gods Reign. Despite a promising start on the first map, Ancient, where they held a 5-1 lead on the T-side, they got rattled up in the following rounds. A desperately close attempt in a 1v3 from Ph1NNN could have given them some liberty on the CT side, but Aurora closed out the first map pretty comfortably in the end.
However, once on their own map pick, Auoroa made the difference in skill apparent. Gods Reign fell to their feet both individually and in terms of team synergy, suffering a crushing defeat with a score of 13-0 in front of their home crowd. Nonetheless, they still have one more opportunity for redemption—a rematch with Aurora in the Grand Finals, should they beat BNK in the Consolidation Final.
Tomorrow will see two games take place and we will have the Skyesports Grand Slam 2024 champion decided as well. Can anyone stop Aurora or will the Russian juggernaut get it done with ease?
