Major life on the line today for TheMongolz
It's only the second day of the Elimination Stages at the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 and we might lose the only remaining Asian team tonight. After a difficult opening day, TheMongolz went 0-2 and now are one BO3 loss away from heading home from Copenhagen.
Just a couple of days back TheMongolz were on cloud nine after making it to the final 16, becoming the first Asian team since TYLOO in 2018 to do so. Things went horribly wrong from there on though, it was always going to be a tough task in the Elimination Stages but nothing went their way.
TheMongolz suffered a closed loss on Mirage to Natus Vincere, which they could have stolen away from Aleksib and co. but even after that loss, the valiant effort would've kept their morales up. TheMongolz were set to face the loser of the Vitality and Eternal Fire game and most thought it would be Eternal Fire taking on the Asian squad.
Eternal Fire though stunned Vitality which meant TheMongolz faced Vitality in their 0-1 pool BO1 and even though they started with a 7-5 lead on Nuke a late-rising ZywOo handed them their second loss of the day.
After the opening day, TheMongolz sit in the 0-2 pool and will face paiN today, who were also impressive in the Opening Stage but suffered two losses on Day 1 of the Elimination Stage. TheMongolz though have put up valiant fights in both of their BO1s against formidable opponents and should take heart from that.
The loser of TheMongolz - paiN game goes home and the Asian team would want to head home from the Major with at least a win in the Elimination Stages.
